Alice + Olivia Spring 2013

“I started with the whole concept of going back to the American dream,” designer Stacey Bendet said. “I wanted a return to optimism and feeling good.”

“I tried to just create an unexpected element to each more literal aspect of the ’50s,” Bendet explained. “I made the corsets sexy, and I went back to full skirts. I [featured] embroidery, rich colors, leather jackets, and leather shift dresses.”
The Alice + Olivia spring 2013 collection reflects the designer’s love for music, culture, vintage fashion and art. The designer also admits that she has turned to all the women on the earth for inspiration and that the Alice + Olivia girl always knows what she wants, regardless of the time of the year and the occasion. “As a designer today, part of my job is to pick a trend and to design the clothes,” she said. “But I also need to create a way for my customers to be individuals.”

For spring 2013, think lovely feminine dresses, corsets, bustiers and sexy cropped pants, as well as red-carpet worthy evening gowns. Don’t shy away from bold prints and vibrant colors inspired by the work of artist Ilya Bolotowsky. There polka dots, chic leopard prints, soft stripes, and romantic flowers. “There is a little humor in everything,” Bendet said.
